ECHOES OF URBAN SUSTAINABILITY
ECHOES OF URBAN SUSTAINABILITY
A series of 4 radio episodes addressing urban sustainability and its different dimensions, with a story told by two voice actors, and interviews with researchers from the centre, all of which were developed to support the Active Citizenship curriculum proposal.
EPISODE 1/ WHAT IS URBAN SUSTAINABILITY? (In Spanish)
We address the concept of sustainability, what international efforts have been made to approach this issue and what is the link between sustainability and the city. In the episode we interview Jonathan Barton, geographer and PhD in economics, professor at Universidad Católica de Chile and researcher at CEDEUS.
EPISODE 2/ CHEAP CLOTHES ARE EXPENSIVE… FOR THE PLANET (In Spanish)
We purchase so much and yet we never pause to think: where do all the resources come from to make the products we consume? Under what working conditions are they produced? Or what is the environmental footprint of my consumption? In this chapter we look at the impact of certain industries like the fast fashion industry. We talk to Johannes Rehner, geographer, PhD in economics, professor at Universidad Católica de Chile and CEDEUS researcher.
EPISODE 3/ CARING FOR THE NEIGHBOURHOOD, SAVING THE PLANET (in Spanish)
Local citizen participation is very important to achieve sustainable urban development. What is citizen participation about? Is it just going to vote? Can I have an impact in my neighbourhood and municipality? In this chapter we look at citizen participation and its different forms. We interview Lake Sagaris, journalist, PhD in urban planning and community development, professor at Universidad Católica de Chile and CEDEUS researcher.
EPISODE 4/ EVERY DROP MATTERS (in Spanish)
Population growth, pollution and overexploitation of water are confronting us with water scarcity that is worsened by climate change. In this chapter, we address sustainable water consumption in the city. We interview María Molinos, a graduate in environmental sciences, PhD in local development and territory, professor at Universidad Católica de Chile and CEDEUS researcher.
