POLICY AND PRACTICE UNIT (UPP)

The Policy and Practice Unit (UPP) is focused on driving transformations among various stakeholders in civil society, including the private sector and decision-makers involved in public policy implementation. This unit at CEDEUS works towards advancing Urban Sustainability.

Its main objective is to foster effective integration between science, institutions, and citizens to enhance decision-making processes.

Initially, the UPP began by conducting diagnostic assessments alongside public and private sectors, as well as different communities, to identify the primary sustainability challenges in Chilean cities. This work led the Center to strengthen collaborations with various communities and public agencies, focusing on the development of innovative citizen participation methods, always through knowledge transfer and the contribution of evidence to regulations and policies. Thanks to these efforts, the UPP has strengthened its relationships with public and community actors and has enhanced its expertise in the impact of public policies.

Today, the UPP focuses on three key areas:

Territorial Engagement: We identify, co-design, and support the implementation of research plans with a territorial approach, creating connections with various stakeholders for the development of diagnostics, pilot programs, community dialogues, among others. In this way, we aim to generate scientific evidence and both material and immaterial impacts in the territories, offering recommendations for public policy. Learn more…

✅Public Policy Instruments: We contribute to the establishment, design, implementation, evaluation, monitoring, and scalability of public policies, regulations, and programs related to Sustainable Urban Development by promoting scientific evidence for dialogue with decision-makers (parliamentarians, local authorities, civil society interest groups, and the private sector). We propose innovative methodologies and tools. Learn more…

✅Knowledge Transfer and Training: We democratize access to scientific knowledge for communities and decision-makers, fostering meaningful learning, influencing public policies, and encouraging attitudinal changes to advance towards Sustainable Urban Development (SUD). Learn more…
