He is an industrial civil engineer with a diploma in Transport Engineering and hold a master’s degree in Engineering Sciences from Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile. He received his PhD in Engineering Science from the University of California, Berkeley.

His research topics are related to traffic theory, control and simulation, the use of traffic sensors, traffic state estimation and Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS).
