María Isabel Rivera is an assistant professor at the Department of Architecture of the Faculty of Architecture, Urban Planning and Geography of Universidad de Concepción. Her academic career includes 10 years of experience teaching undergraduate and postgraduate courses in Chile and abroad (USA), in theoretical/practical courses on architectural technologies, with a focus on the area of sustainability at the scale of urban design and passive architectural design.

 

She is an architect from Universidad de Concepción, holds a master’s degree in Architecture from the University of Washington, and a Ph.D. in Architecture from the University of Oregon, USA. In addition, she has the professional certification PHIUS #2846 (Certified Passive House Consultant), which is awarded in the United States.

 

RESEARCH AREAS

 

Her research focuses on the built environment, particularly in the field of energy, with a focus on energy efficiency and environmental quality. She is especially concerned with thermal comfort and indoor air quality in educational establishments.

 

She is the Principal Investigator of FONDECYT Initiation Project N°11221255, REVEAL: Researching Environmental Effects on Academic Learning (2022–2025). She is also a Co-investigator in the RESTAURA Project NPID2020-114363GB-I00, Modalities Challenges Research and Knowledge Generation Spain.
