Director of the PhD Program in Geography at the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile. Full Professor at the Institute of Geography of the Faculty of History, Geography, and Political Science, and professor at the Institute for Sustainable Development.
He is a geographer from the University of Wales and holds a master’s degree in Latin American Studies and PhD in Economic History from the University of Liverpool. He has taught at the London School of Economics and the University of East Anglia in the UK. He currently serves on the editorial boards of the journals: Environmental Policy and Governance, EURE, Asia Pacific Viewpoint, Norwegian Journal of Geography, and México y la Cuenca del Pacífico.
RESEARCH AREAS
His work as a researcher and professor focuses on policy and planning for sustainable development at various scales. It includes studies on the role of the export-oriented productive sector in local development, urban adaptation to climate change, strategic planning for city-regions and its evaluation, and sustainable development as a planning paradigm.
He is the Principal Investigator of a Fondecyt Regular project on territorial panarchy: «Driving forces in sustainability transitions in mining and energy territories from a historical perspective» (2024–2028).
